The Challenge

To supply a bespoke power system for an around the world expedition.

Our Solution

An avid adventurer contacted PPT seeking a robust dual battery system for a legendary 93 Toyota land cruiser.

The vehicle was to be used on an around the world trip which would include sub-zero winter excursions and baking hot Sahara Desert journeys.

Loads consisted of the usual essentials – DC fridge, mobile device charging, low powered lighting, DC compressor and winch

The end user had already decided on a LiFePO4 secondary leisure battery due to space restrictions and the superior power density and fast charging lithium offers.

Once PPT understood the application and user requirements it was a simple decision to recommend the Battery manager 30 from Redarc Electronics, this all in 1 battery management system which is suitable for all battery types is designed for the most extreme environments and offers 6 products in 1.

30A DC-DC charger (Split charge)
30A 240V mains charger
30A MPPT solar controller
Dual Battery isolator
Low volt disconnect
Complete battery monitor
1 x 150W semi flexible solar panel was specified to help aid the charging process while off-grid.

The BMS internal 30A DC-DC charger or mains 240V charger paired with the 90Ah LiFePO4 battery means the vehicle is only ever 3 hours away from being fully charged!

After 6 months of use PPT and the customer is very happy with the overall system performance which has not skipped a beat since install.
